When it comes to weight loss, cardio exercises are a must. These workouts raise your heart rate, improves your endurance, and studies have shown that it can even add years to your life.
However, doing cardio exercises can be seen as boring. After all, who wants to stay on a treadmill for hours on end?
For those of you who don’t like the monotony of some cardio workouts, here are three exercises that will make exercising fun again for you.
Box Jumps, with Weights
Box jumps are a staple in any CrossFit box. If you’re not familiar with it, just imagine a wooden box in front of you and jumping on top of it. Sounds easy, but depending on the height of the box, it can be very challenging.
For a good cardio workout, find a box (or a raised platform, or anything you can safely jump onto without injuring yourself) and stand in place in front of it with your feet shoulder-width apart. Hold a dumbbell in each of your hand and jump onto the box. Remember to step down back on the ground gently.
Do at least 15 jumps in one minute and rest if there’s still time left. Complete 10 minutes and then do it again for a second set.
Another fun cardio activity from CrossFit is the tire flip. As the name suggests, it just involves flipping huge tires. With your chest up and straight back, pick up the tire and flip it. Do 15 flips in 1 minute, and rest if there’s still time.
Repeat for 10 minutes and then do a second set.
You would need two cones for this activity, or any two markers, and two kettle bells or dumbbells. Put the markers around 15 feet apart. With the kettle bells or dumbbells, walk around each cone or marker in a figure 8 pattern. Remember to keep your arms close to your side (as if you’re carrying a briefcase).
Do 15 laps, then rest for 2 minutes. Complete three sets.
These activities, while not taking hours to do, will definitely make your sweat. After this, you will never go back to running on a treadmill again!
