Known for playing strong, independent women in action flicks, Michelle Rodriguez remains super fit and athletic in real life. Rodriguez, who is turning 37 this July 12, credits a proper diet and adventurous workouts to maintaining her rocking bod. Here’s a look at some of her fitness and diet tricks.
She gets active outdoors
The Fast and the Furious and Resident Evil star has always favored active and adventurous activities including biking, dancing, rollerblading, and surfing. She manages to stay active when traveling and takes advantage of the environment she’s in. During a beach vacation in Spain, she was spotted doing Stand-UP Paddleboarding (SUP), which is a great way to build balance and flexibility.
Michelle also practices yoga to improve her flexibility, build muscle strength and keep her mind relaxed. While on the set of Fast and the Furious 7, she posted a photo of herself on her Instagram account doing a yoga headstand wearing a skimpy two-piece neon pink bikini that showed off her rocking body and toned abs.
Michelle has been typecast in rough and tough roles, usually in the police force or armed forces. To prepare for her breakout role as a boxer in GirlFight, she trained intensely for 4.5 months, including 2.5 miles of daily running and jogging, lifting weights, half an hour skipping, push-ups, sit-ups, drinking protein and boxing sessions with real boxers. The high intensity workouts were monitored by a personal trainer. She even trained with the Marines for her role in Battle: Los Angeles.
She eats healthy
Michelle stays away from processed, sugary and high carb foods, opting instead for high protein foods and vegetables in her diet. She’s a proud and eco-friendly meat eater who regularly eats free-range chicken and fish for their high-protein content. For veggies, Michelle gravitates towards broccoli, spinach and beets.
She hydrates naturally
In an interview with Celebuzz, Michelle admitted to trying the the Master Cleanse and said “it sucked” because it kept her away from social gatherings. Instead, she keeps healthy by hydrating with a lot of water in a day, which helps her consume unwholesome snacks a lot less.
